About Me
I’m John Steigerwald, a Software Engineer with 6+ years of experience designing and implementing AI-driven simulation systems, real-time optimization engines, and agent-based models. Adept in Rust, Java, C# and Python with a strong record of mentoring junior engineers and delivering high-performance solutions. Proven contributor to R&D initiatives resulting in multimillion-dollar contracts and published academic research. Skilled in bridging the gap between complex technical challenges and practical, real-world outcomes.
Projects
Adaptive mission support and training.
I worked as part of the C# core library as part of the team at Charles River Analytics. I helped to create the systems allowing for simulation-based training, including performance tracking, real-time assessment, feedback, and after action reviews. KWYN is used in various projects as well as has been licensened commercially.
A set of systems for creating events in a first person dungeon crawler based system.
Having a passion for old school dungeon crawlers I made this in Unity using C#. It includes systems for adding NPCs with dialogue and events, map navigation and generation as well as combat systems.
Education
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
BS - Dual major in Computer Science & Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences
2014 - 2018
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected technological research universities, with a strong reputation in engineering, science, and innovation. Its rigorous academics, influential alumni, and deep ties to industry make it a leader in STEM education and research.
At RPI I studied both Computer Science and Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences. I spent a majority of my time learning how to develop games as well as improving my skills as a software engineer. I was a member of the Rensselaer AI League and the Game Developers Club.
